If any peeps are still on Twitter and wouldn't mind boosting the news, here's a Tweet from my agent: https://twitter.com/CRSRipley/status/1775166811434025009?s=20

I mean, that's the only rational interpretation.

If this fucking guy can get a book deal then anything is truly possible. Of course, a more sinister read could be that the publishing industry is truly broken.

I prefer the more generous, “this guy’s wife must be a fucking saint.”

That's the correct take, as she'll tragically attest.

I've got a follow-up piece to the book announcement in the hopper which addresses this very point. Stay tuned.

You had me at bitter haiku, but the sale of your novel is truly beaucoup!

Thank you, Michael! It's an awesome feeling after plugging away for these last few years. I really appreciate you following along and supporting me during the journey.

I'm genuinely impressed. Selling a novel in this marketplace in truly a genuine accomplishment. So no more bitter haikus for you!

Haha, thank you! I really appreciate this comment, and have the querying battle scars -- both agents and editors -- to back it up.

Congrats! Great news and I’ve been meaning to re-read Catch 22 for a long time. Maybe I will finally get around to it soon.

Thanks, Julie!

I realize it's a heavy lift watching a washed middle-aged dad rant for 30 minutes, but do check out the video (or maybe just the audio while you're doing chores). I think the re-read is 100% worth it, but two decades on I can see more clearly that CATCH-22 is by no means a perfect novel. That said, damned if it's not extremely influential.

Well done, Sir. I remember your discussing your disappointments. Glad that, as is often the case, persistence has paid off

Thanks, Terry! I think I've cracked this joke before, but of all the publishing advice I've ever come across, the idea that you have to be a hard-headed, stubborn, delusional, relentless, borderline sociopath, and just keep pushing no matter what, is always what's convinced me I had what it takes.

Absolutely amazing news. Congrats on the deal. It must have been surreal to see the publishers market post!

Thank you, Dennis! It's been a wild ride since we met up at MWW22, which was really the inflection point in this entirely absurd charade.

The deal only truly began to feel real once we signed the contract a few weeks ago. Seeing the announcement has pushed the idea into the land of the surreal.

Thanks for riding along with me and for all your support!

Thank you, Michael! It's an awesome deal -- as good as I could have asked for -- and it's surreal and humbling all at once.

And thank you for taking a chance on Field Research and supporting me and becoming a great friend along the way. You're the real deal, and I'm lucky to have you in my corner.

Congrats on the deal, and good luck on the final process toward publication! Your wife rocks & she will still deserve gifts & kudos this next year for sure :)

Thanks, Robin! My wife is the real hero of this story, and like most heroes, she was forced to sacrifice herself for a helpless freeloader. :-)

I've got a satirical look at my book publishing journey in the hopper, which should provide her proper credit. She'll still get the gifts, of course!

Thank you, Kris! Honestly it still feels unreal and hasn't truly sunk in. Today's announcement, knowing the news is now in the world, and I'm getting my fifteen seconds in the limelight, is the first time where I'm having that "Oh shit, this is happening!" moment.

And a big thank you for following along for these past two years. You and Maegan and Wil were like three of my first ten ride-or-die comrades, so I really appreciate you. Plus, I'm glad to see you writing more often these days! There's always something to learn from dissecting your prose.

I'm just really excited to see you get there, and to see to what great things it leads. Been following you for a long time, as you say, so to see one of the OGs get that book deal, it's emotional. I know how hard you've worked to get there. Just really happy to see it.

As for me, I've been writing in the background, quietly. Got more than 20,000 words of a novel down so far. Little by little it's starting to come together. But with my ADHD-riddled mind, there's still a high chance it never gets anywhere near to finished. Time will tell. Your announcement has inspired me though.

These comments mean a lot to me, Kris. As the saying goes: just keep writing. Just keep writing.

Really jumping up and down for your good news because I know how hard you worked for it. In addition, in my experience the summer of 2025 is actually lightening speed for this sort of novel with the big 5! And your decision to start working on the next one is exactly what you need to be doing because it is hard not to get caught up in the whirlwind of publication, and always good to have the next story to at least be noodling around with.

Thank you, Mary!

I've said it before, but what's always humbling -- and intimidating and gratifying -- is knowing how many great writers like you have been reading and supporting my exciting, and at times quixotic, journey. I really appreciate you.

And you're spot on regarding the speed. I've been living a very charmed life lately -- agent last November, contract in March, publication targeted for next summer -- and I'm not taking that for granted. Now, to the next batshit crazy book!
