Hey Friends,
Welcome back to Field Research, the dark humor and satire publication written and produced by me,
.I had a flame-throwing idea in the works for this week but then new shit came to light man, and the whole world WENT CRAZY!!!
I’ll tell you what I’m blathering about…
I’ve received an offer of representation from a bloodsucking literary agent!
Check that. I’ve received two offers of representation from bloodsucking literary agents — and more could be forthcoming!
At this very moment scores of soulless barnacles are reading my novel, showering me with praise, and fiercely competing for my services — and 15.0% of future domestic sales. I’m the belle of the literary ball and I gotta tell you: this swarthy, washed, forty-three-year-old semi-terrorist has never felt prettier.
In all seriousness, this has been an extremely gratifying week. Securing a literary agent and pursuing traditional publication have been my goals ever since I had my midlife crisis and became a full-time writer five years ago.
I’m stoked AF to have cleared this formidable hurdle, and being spoiled for choice is the gravy on the proverbial gravy.
Of course, while I’m savoring these fleeting moments of negotiating power, I’m also thoroughly vetting the interested agents to ensure I select the best possible business partner for my kickass novel, Leverage.
I’m beyond thrilled by these developments and I’m optimistic about the future of my book.
Now I just have to hope it gets published before KKR kills the industry and/or Moms for Liberty criminalizes reading.
Author’s note: This post was modified in November 2024 to remove obsolete content, which is why it ends so abruptly.
With the benefit of hindsight, we all know Leverage will reside on bookshelves on August 19, 2025!

Dude! This post really tied the Substack together! So proud of you!🎳
Congratulations!! Try to use some FBI Black Swan negotiation techniques -- apparently it works for deal negotiation, hostage situations also with spouses, and toddlers: https://www.masterclass.com/articles/tips-for-using-black-swans-in-a-negotiation-from-chris-voss
