Thanks, Maegan! Such a great feeling! And thanks for supporting me from the outset and for sticking with me. I'll always have Chuck P. to thank for that.
Thank you, Wil! Ditto what I told Maegan. You've been following and supporting my work since I came to Substack and I really appreciate it. You guys have kept me motivated and inspired.
Thanks, Sam! A wild week that I'll never forget. Unfortunately, we still have to sell the actual book, but given the reception it's receiving from agents I think I've got a great chance.
If/when you read it, I know you'll fucking love it.
Sometimes, there's a man, well, he's the man for his time and place. He fits right in there. And that's Amran, on Substack, getting an agent for his book.
I really appreciate all the support you've showered upon me since I came to this platform. You invested in my work when I was just a random dude, and following your work -- and working alongside you -- have helped me grow tremendously as a writer. Thank you so much!
Thank you, Amy! I really appreciate you just diving into my work and being an awesome supporter of my madness. Seeing my writing resonate with people like you has kept me motivated.
Thank you, Amy! In more ways than one, too! I told my wife any advance money I might receive will go directly towards after-school care for my kids. I'm tapping out!
In all seriousness, your support has meant so much to me. I still remember how you just jumped into my work, went paid, and became such an engaged and lovely reader. That you're a bona fide writing professor -- and way smarter than me -- has been extremely humbling and inspiring.
I’ve been on a virtual conference line since 7am with the chocolate world in LatAm, Europe, West Africa and the US. First thing I did when I got off is read your post Amran, bc Friday mornings are Field Research mornings.
Well that didn’t take long. You realize you just ruined the misery of every other writer seeking an agent. We’re supposed to wait for years. Accumulate hundreds of rejections. Go nearly without food for months on end. You make it look easy man!
Seriously though, huge kudos and congrats to you. This is thrilling and inspiring. 🎉💥💪🏽
To be honest, I'm thinking about writing about my querying process and seeing if somebody will publish it. I certainly worked hard -- and got lucky -- but there are some tips I think people continue to disregard, which I had the benefit of learning from people like Cat.
Finally, if it's any consolation to anyone, I just received a rejection this morning that read nearly identical to the one Dan got from White Chick Lit for Brown Man's Burden. 🤣🤣🤣
If this book does get published, and I become a person of ill-repute, I'll always remember that you guys reading Field Research kept me motivated and inspired and put wind in my writerly sails.
Love this, as usual.
P.S. Still absolutely REELING with excitement for you and your book
You and me both! I can't thank you enough for your support along the way. Better still, we're just getting started. :-)
Congratulations, Amran! This is huge!!

Wow! Congrats! Congrats! Congrats!

Congratulations!
Thanks, C.L.! A surreal and amazing feeling to be sure.
Congrats!
Thanks, Joleen! I appreciate you taking a chance on this crazy newsletter and following my work!
HOLY SHIT, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!
I KNOW! Thank you! Looking forward to celebrating with you and other Chicago-based Substack writers soon!
Awesome news! Congrats and excited to buy a copy.

Hell yeah. I just snagged “Everything Abridged” and gonna start that one soon.
D-Day's book is a gem. You're going to love it. My favorite story in the collection is Bipolar Tendencies.
Congratulations!! Try to use some FBI Black Swan negotiation techniques -- apparently it works for deal negotiation, hostage situations also with spouses, and toddlers: https://www.masterclass.com/articles/tips-for-using-black-swans-in-a-negotiation-from-chris-voss
Thanks, Sharif!
And this is what I'm talking about people. Sharif knows shit, and you should be following his work.
Yes, it does! Umm at least that’s what I’ve heard. I’ve never used Black Swan. Ever.
Dude! This post really tied the Substack together! So proud of you!🎳
Thank you, Michael!

Amazing!! Congrats!!
Thanks, Shannon! A long time coming, but an awesome payoff.
WOW WOW WOW! Big news indeed! 🙌🏻 This must feel so validating after all your efforts. Whatever you’re putting out, I’m buying 🔥
(also, “unmedicated second graders” 🤭😆)
Thank you, Amy! I really appreciate you just diving into my work and being an awesome supporter of my madness. Seeing my writing resonate with people like you has kept me motivated.
Also, there's a whole section of "the unmedicated" on Field Research. Luckily for my sanity, but unluckily for the content gods, yesterday's field trip came nowhere close to this horror show: https://agowani.substack.com/p/one-sided-conversations-with-unmedicated-5b6
Loved it. “She doesn’t tell me to travel back in time ten years and get a vasectomy — the correct answer — but instead suggests I take point.” 🤣🤣
That's a dark horse for my favorite post ever. Certainly top five.
That, and your post on middle age. *chef’s kiss
Congratulations! Now you have someone else to do your dirty work for you! ;)
Thank you, Amy! In more ways than one, too! I told my wife any advance money I might receive will go directly towards after-school care for my kids. I'm tapping out!

Here's to an even more exciting future!
Congrats on the representation
Thanks, Tom!

Thank you! I'm really excited! And relieved.

Don't forget about us when you're famous, K?
Ha! If only.

Great news all around. Congrats!
Thanks, Julie! Lot of cool things are happening these days. Can't wait for Monday's meeting about our secret project...
